Pronunciation Thursdays



Okay everyone, it's time to work on our pronunciation.
I know that not everyone likes practicing pronunciation in class so here's a chance to do it in your home.

We are going to look at the hardest sounds for most Asian English speakers:
R and L


First for the L move  the tip of your tongue forward, just behind the front teeth and say "LLL".

For the R we move our lips forward a bit and try to pull our tongue far back in the mouth (like you're trying to swallow it), don't let the tip of the tongue touch anything!  Then make a strong "ER" sound.

Okay, that part is easy, now lets try some minimal pairs:
Go very slowly, make sure to move your tongue to the proper places in your mouth.


Rock - Lock
Bar - Ball
Grill - Girl
Real - Leer
Really - Leery
Loll - Roll
